Are Bluesky Bookmarks Private? How to Find Them (84,326 Posts Checked)

Yes, Bluesky bookmarks are private. Nobody can see what you save, and saving a post doesn't notify its author. To find your bookmarks, open Saved from the menu, or go to bsky.app/saved. Only the total is public: a post's own page shows "N saves" once anyone has saved it.

That public total means anyone can measure what Bluesky users save, even though nobody can see who saved it, so I measured it. I took every new post made on Bluesky in a 30-minute window on October 18, 2026, and looked up its saves and likes a day later: 84,326 posts, 491,274 likes and 12,301 saves. Saves were rare, about 1 for every 40 likes, and they went to different posts than likes did. Link posts got four times as many saves per like as text posts, and a third of all saves on top-level posts went to adult content.

(Disclosure: I make Agent Sky, a Bluesky growth tool. More on it at the end.)

How Do You Bookmark a Post on Bluesky?

  1. Find the bookmark icon under the post. It's on the right of the row of buttons, just left of the share and ··· buttons.
  2. Tap it. The icon fills in, and the post is in your saved posts.
  3. Tap it again to remove it. After you remove one, Bluesky shows an Undo button in case you tapped by mistake.

It works the same in the iPhone and Android apps and on bsky.app in a browser. Bluesky announced bookmarks on September 8, 2025 under the name "Saved Posts", which is why the app says "save" and not "bookmark". Before that, people saved posts by liking them or by replying with a 📌 pushpin emoji.

How Do You Find Your Bookmarks on Bluesky?

Open Saved. Where it is depends on your device:

Where you use Bluesky How to get to your bookmarks
Desktop browser (bsky.app) Saved in the left-hand menu
iPhone or Android app Tap the ☰ menu icon at the top left of the home screen (or swipe right), then tap Saved
Any browser Go straight to bsky.app/saved

Your most recent saves are at the top. The page has no search, no folders and no sorting. I checked this in the code of Bluesky's app (bluesky-social/social-app, as of October 19, 2026). If you've saved hundreds of posts, finding an old one means scrolling. If an author deletes a post you saved, it stays in your list as "This post was deleted by its author", with a Remove button.

Are Bluesky Bookmarks Private?

Yes, and much more private than likes. Almost everything on Bluesky is public, including every like you've ever given. Bookmarks are the exception. Bluesky stores them off the public protocol, the same way it stores DMs, so they never appear in your public account data. Nobody can list your saved posts, and nobody can check whether you saved a given post.

Here's what each side can see:

Like Bookmark (save)
Can others see that you did it? Yes, anyone No
Does the author get notified? Yes No
Can the author see who did it? Yes No
Is the total shown on the post? Yes, in feeds and on the post's page Only on the post's own page, as "N saves"
Can a stranger read the total? Yes Yes, through Bluesky's public API

Does Bluesky Notify Someone When You Save Their Post?

No. Saving a post sends no notification, and there's no list of who saved it, not even for the author. All the author can see is the total going up by one on the post's own page. Saves aren't one of the notification types Bluesky has at all. The full list of what it does notify is in does Bluesky notify screenshots.

What Do People Actually Save on Bluesky?

Links and adult content most, plain text least. Because the save total is public, I could compare it with likes on every post in my sample. The measure below is saves per 100 likes, added up across all posts of that type. It shows what people saved relative to what they liked.

Top-level posts (not replies), adult-labelled posts left out (n = 44,936):

Post type Posts Saves per 100 likes Posts saved at least once
Text only 18,065 0.90 1.3%
Gallery (Bluesky's newer multi-image post) 178 1.46 7.9%
Quote post 4,713 1.92 6.3%
Image 10,883 2.38 7.5%
Video 1,319 2.40 13.0%
Quote with image or video 774 2.78 12.5%
Link card 9,003 3.91 4.0%

(One post with a custom embed type is in the total but not the table.)

What stood out:

  1. Saves are rare. Only 3.6% of all posts were saved even once, while 53.1% got at least one like. Across everything, there was 1 save for every 40 likes.
  2. Link posts get the most saves per like. A post with a link card got 3.91 saves per 100 likes, more than four times a text-only post (0.90). The most-saved links in my sample went to science journals, newsletters, YouTube videos and news sites.
  3. Longer text gets saved more. Among text-only posts, those under 100 characters got 0.62 saves per 100 likes. Those of 200–300 characters got 1.29, about twice as many.
  4. Adult content gets saved far more. Posts with an adult-content label were 3.1% of top-level posts but got 33% of the saves on top-level posts: 8.4 saves per 100 likes, against 2.2 for everything else. That's likely because a like is public and a save isn't.
  5. Saves pile up on a few posts. The top 1% of posts got 79% of all saves.
  6. Replies are rarely saved. They got 0.84 saves per 100 likes, against 2.94 for top-level posts.
  7. Once a post does well, saves are normal. Of top-level posts with 50–199 likes, 72% had at least one save. Of those with 200 or more, 96% did.

This fits an earlier, smaller check of 784 posts from 11 large accounts. Among the 547 of them with at least 50 likes, the median post had 2.7 saves per 100 likes (in does Bluesky have analytics). That figure is a median of each post's own ratio, so it's a little different from the totals above.

What Counts as a Lot of Saves on Bluesky?

More than about 4 saves per 100 likes is high. That's above the average for every kind of post in the table, and about the top fifth of non-adult posts with 50 or more likes. Below about 50 likes, ignore the ratio: one save moves it too much.

A save is a quieter signal than a like. Nobody sees you do it, so it shows that people wanted to come back to a post, not that they wanted to be seen supporting it. To check yours, open each post and compare its saves with its likes. Bluesky has no screen that shows saves for all your posts at once. Our free Bluesky analytics tool doesn't show saves either, but it shows your top posts and how your engagement compares with accounts the same size.

How I measured it, and the limits. I replayed Jetstream, Bluesky's public stream of network events, and kept every new post created between 14:00 and 14:30 UTC on Sunday, October 18, 2026 (84,685 posts). At about 16:04 UTC on October 19, roughly 26 hours later, I looked up each post's likes and saves through Bluesky's public API. 359 posts (0.4%) had been deleted or couldn't be read by then and are left out. "Adult" means the post had one of Bluesky's adult-content labels (porn, sexual, sexual-figurative, nudity, graphic media), from its author or from Bluesky's moderation. "Link card" means a link preview, not a link inside the text. This is a single half-hour on a Sunday afternoon in Europe and morning in the Americas, with every kind of account mixed in, bots included. Saves keep coming in after a day, so the totals will grow. All of it is public data, read while logged out. Nothing here tells me who saved anything, because Bluesky doesn't make that public.

Saves show what your audience finds useful. Followers are how that audience grows, and I built Agent Sky to grow it. It finds active accounts in your niche, follows them at a human pace, well inside Bluesky's limits, and checks for a live follow-back before it unfollows anyone. $9 a month, free to start. Quick FAQ

Are Bluesky bookmarks private? Yes. Nobody can see what you've saved, and nobody can see who saved their post. Bluesky keeps bookmarks off the public protocol, the same way it keeps DMs. The only public part is the total: a post's own page shows "N saves" once at least one person has saved it.

In the iPhone and Android apps, tap the ☰ menu icon at the top left of the home screen (or swipe right) and tap Saved. The page is also at bsky.app/saved.
